Speaker spikes, who uses them

Spikes are essential with tall skinny towers on carpet. They can affect the sound by using them to tilt the speaker back a little. Spikes to me are analogous to a woman with nice legs. High spikey heels just completes the ensemble :D

I have read the education section about the use of speaker spikes but have not decided if it is worth having the "it will tear up the carpet" conversation over. Who uses speaker spikes and have you noticed any benefits, beyond the theoretical?
No one with an ounce of common sense.

i use em. towers & thick carpet, speakers would be wobbley otherwise. and i think they make for better sound quality.

A long way to go for what? Judging by your signature you have a long way to go....what? You talking down to members is not gonna get you any friends here.......In fact it makes me a little mad to tell you the truth. And like some people who won't take credit for a red chicklet I will. I gave you one for being way to high on your horse.
I do not like to knock anybodies gear but midcow2 did not have to knock my opinion on spiking speakers. If he makes fun of me it's not OK to make fun of him, it goes two ways.

I don't understand why people are damaging their carpets with spikes. I have had my Mirage's(mains) on spikes since I bought them over 10 years ago, and I've never damaged a carpet. They are called carpet spikes...they are supposed to be used with carpets.

I am having my home remodeled from a fire...and we will not have carpet anywhere...except maybe an area carpet here and there for looks...but no more bacteria & dirt trapping wall to wall shite....anyways...I won't be able to use spikes on the new floors. I have ordered a couple of sub dudes...and I am going to try those without the spikes first. Then I can also use the spikes on the sun dudes to see if it helps. But I believe the sub dude without the spikes will work best...but of course this is just an educated guess.

Cheers,
BT

I don't have spikes on my speakers since they are cheap pieces of crap. But next year when I bite the bullet and get some good speakers they will more than likely come with spikes and I will use them. I think they would make them look cooler if nothing else, plus the added stability I hear of.

And beyond all that if someone breaks in your house you can stab them in the eye with your speaker, wouldn't that be cool!?!:D

I'm going to have to try a pair of carpet spikes on my SI760s...I wonder if they'll make a difference.

They won't.
"The SI-760 is a classic D’Apollito (mid/tweet/mid) design that lends itself perfectly for use as a main, center (horizontal or vertical), and surround speaker. The versatility and outstanding performance of this inwall speaker is what makes it one of our most popular inwall models." ;)

spiked speakers just look GOOD. :D
And if it LOOKS good it's gonna SOUND good. It's gotta be like cable elevators. They ain't doin' ya a lick of good if ya can't see 'em, SQ wise. :p:D

I'm still waiting to hear from bandphan's reasoning for his post in this thread. It doesn't 'fit' with general opinion of his views.

Nah...but A/V gear is just like people. Looks aren't everything, but neither is personality. :D

Speaking of looks, it's back to painting for me.
