I'm having a home theater installed in a house I am building. The installer feels that 6" speakers will be fine, but I have an uneducated gut feeling that 8" will be needed. The room is not overly large (20X30), but has a high ceiling (19 feet). Will a 6" speaker system be as good as an 8"?

JBL HTi55 in wall speaker, which I guess is really a pair of 5" speakers with a separate tweeter, left, right, and center, as opposed to JBL HTi8.

You won't get very much bass out of inwalls, so you may benefit from dual 5" drivers for superior midrange capabilities. I'd say go with what sounds better to you when you first demo'd them side by side. Spend a little extra on a good subwoofer, and make sure there's no "hole" in the upper bass region frequencies (between your inwalls and sub).
