Well as some of you know I sold my speakers in MD and am now looking for a set out here in LA. So last night I went to listen to a set of B&W 801D and the Wilson watts.. I got to the B&W's house and was appaled to see that 1 of the 801's had fallen down a large set of steps. It was cracked almost in half but the guy said "it still sounds great" well the top was hanging off and the whole cab was split about 18" from the back bottom to almost the top. Needless to say hence the reason for the 4800 tag. I was saddened to see such a beautiful speaker trashed like it was......I left promptly. Next was a 20 minute trip to listen to the Wilson Watts. I was actually blown away buy the sheer volume and clarity of the Wilsons. They were freaking amazing to say the least. I listen to everything from metal to classical to reggae and funk. I listened to some organ stuff and female vocals with piano. EVERYTHING sounded amazing on these stunners. I am seriously considering buying those. I am going to listen to a few of Salks products in the nest week or so but for now the Wilsons are front runners.......stay tuned peeps....

Best wishes to you man. I’m thinking about going out to some high end shops just to fill that need to hear something different from what I have. A lot of people change out speakers because they think they’re “upgrading” but really they’re just wanting something new.

Just heard a set of Legacy Whispers
and they were really nice but sounded way too laid back IMO. They are freakin huge as well. For all the woofers each one has they didn't hit hard in the 50 to 100hz range at all. No kick drum in your chest no low end organ notes rattling your body...very dissapointing to say the least. They also had oodles of power with a Coda 800 watt amp on each one .....

The guy who finished the enclosure must have been on vacation.

I've never liked open baffle speakers... I think they sound just fine and I know they are very accurate and natural. I always run the bass and mids a little "hot" and the open baffle stuff just doesnt do it for me. Those look pretty sweet though...

Jamie, any chance you can listen to some JTR stuff? I'd love to hear your opinion... They are on my short list for the next speaker purchase...

I got to hear a set of Whispers when I went to a Legacy event back around 2000. Pretty nice, but not worth the $14k price tag, IMO.

And, yeah - they are huge!

Let me guess, that HUGE crack wasn't disclosed in any way until you arrived to look at the 801Ds. I would have called him a prick/idiot and tell him to give me $20 for wasting my time and if I didn't pay up spit on his shoes. If he's not wearing shoes, apologize in advance to him and explain that if he were wearing shoes you wouldn't have to spit in his face, and proceed to do so.

As I stated they were huge and sounded small. I am guessing that I am not a fan of open baffle speakers at all. I am still in shock over the guy selling the 801d's,buy my totaled speaker for $1000 bucks. Even B&W would have seen that speaker and laughed. There is no freaking way that could ever be fixed. I should of taken a pic of it as speaker horror pics go it would have won hands down.
Adam I have not heard any of the JTR stuff although it looks huge. I am not really a fan of huge "PRO" looking cabs,at least they look that way to me. I have been in the live sound industry for over 20 years and don't want"PA" looking speakers in my house as I see them everyday.
The whispers were so weak sounding that I almost laughed at the guy.......about the B&W's....the toolbag said nothing about the destroyed speaker and I didn't even say goodbye I just turned around and walked out of his pad. What an A****** that idiot was........well I am keeping looking for now. I am really tryin to hear the Salk HT-3 cause I love the look and the reviews they get are steller....I guess more to come...
