Hi guys

I have been shopping around for speakers all over Mumbai-India.
The speakers are for my bedroom, which is 300 Sqft in size. I like listening to music but would also like to watch movies.

I have seen Bose,JBL,HK, and a few others
However i liked the B&W (705,805s) bookshelves a lot.
Although the 805s are out of my budget (4000$ in Mumbai)

I would like to know if for my room size, bookshelves speakers would be enough, secondly would it make sense to add a center speaker if i would like to watch movies.

All speakers are highly priced in India, would apprecaite some help, if anyone knows some good places to buy them as well.

Thanks
Gyp

What are the other speakers? Sounds like you know already to stay away from Bose. :)

i don't know how much 705 sell in India. i'll just share some of my thought.

i listened to B&W 686, 685, 705, and 805s. (all price are December 2007 price)
686 ($450 pair): i think this speakers is only suitable for surround speaker or as a main speaker with a sub. the little mid/bass simply don't have any low frequency.
685 ($600) this is pretty much a full range already, if you are not talking about heavy bass. certainly enough for music listening.

705 ($1200 pair) my dealer is trying to get rid of all 700 series speakers. (they said the newer version will come in 2008) in my opinion, the 705 is BIG BIG improvement over 600 series. even the latest 600 series is NO comparison to the 5 year old 700 series. If your dealer is running a special on these, i think it would be a great buy.

805s ($2500 pair) this is another big improvement over 700 series. however, not as big as moving from 600 to 700 in my opinion. The 805s is more refine. if you listen to classic music, u will immidiately notice the difference. however, if you are watching movie, the difference is much smaller. (consider the big jump in price)

in the US, 800 series usually hold their value better than other speakers from B&W. if you upgrade later, u lose very little money on 800 series speakers.

300 sq.ft is quite small. are you saying you want to add a center channel and using only 3 speakers VS. 2 speakers? how about surround speakers?

actually, from my experience, in a small room, a good 2 channel speakers are very good for both movie and music. u will lose some surround sound but i don't think u miss much, though. I will get the best front L/R speakers i can afford and call it a day. If i need more speakers, i can slowly adding them later when budget allow.

I had the 602s and thought they were great. Later, I decided to "upgrade" to the 705s. I ended up concluding that they were not actually better (or certainly not enough better to justify the price difference.) I think that sticking with the 600 series will give you much greater bang/buck.

Thanks Guys

Yes the room is around 300 Sqft, in Mumbai thats a big room (real estate prices are a little like NY here :)

The speakers i think are all inflated because of duty

7 series book shelf are for 2000$
8 series book shelf are for 4000$
6 series book shelf are for 1000$

I dont listen to classical music, however i hear all other kinds of music
Jazz, Rock, Pop, Slow , trance etc etc etc etc.. it depends. (however i do enjoy bass)

I am not going for a 5.1 anymore because my room is small and the whole thing will be full of speakers ( i dont want to buy small home theater speakers as the quality of only music without sub is not that great)

Since i have limited space i thought a 2.1 and a center would be enough.
I dont believe the back 2 speakers would mean too much to me.
I dont have place for tower speakers nor for a sub... and for the rear i can only get satellite spearkers (again space)

You guys think it makes sense to buy 2 good Left and Right book shelf (7/6 series probably) and just leave it to that or i should seriously consider adding a center channel.

Thanks guys
