Hi all! I have a marantz sr5300 ampli with 2 b&w dm602 front speakers, 1 central mosscade 517, a jbl sub 175 subwoofer (crossover frequency 40-130), an infinity central rear + 2 jbl lateral rear speakers (decent ones, but 6 ohm imp.)
I was not satisfied, particularly because in some settings (example DTS) the subwoofer did not play at all, in others (stereo with the cd player onkyo dx7333) too much! After reading here the guide 'Bass Management Basics – Settings Made Simple' I changed the settings:
before all speakers were set to 'Large', (there's no crossover setting in sr5300, is fixed at 100), subwoofer volume was middle way and subwoofer crossover was set to 110
now all speakers are set to 'small', subwoofer volume always middle way, and crossover is about 75-80.
Sound is better, and subwoofer is playing even in DTS mode, and all modes seems more 'balanced', without the dramatic (and sometimes bad) changes between one and the other.
Im satisfied about the sound I got, still Im asking what happens if the ampli crossover is fixed to 100 and setting my speakers 'small' I put subwoofer crossover at 75-80 (higher is too much: bumps and detectable). Where does the missing 20 go? Lost? Any advice?
