Sounds like the receiver needs a little professional loving care.
If you can live with this minor inconvenence, fine. You'll save a lot of money.
If not then you have two options. first, find a decent repair tech and take it in and ask for an estimate. If, like the other guy said, it's more than an entry level receiver I'd replace it.
Avtually, there have been a lot of improvements in the last fifteen years and this might be a good excuse to modernize/upgrade.
