I have an older 100watt pioneer/radioshack dts reciver
4 yamaha ns-a636 speakers
a yst-sw305 sub and an expensive for best buy klispsh center channel.

Let me first off note i have allways been into sound. Ive been a musician since i was a little kid and im blessed with the ear to hear the pitches of things.

ive really been getting into HT, more than just owning some mediocre stuff
and have decided to get the axiom 80 setup, the yamaha 2600 and a high end dvd cda player. Im wanting a good movie theater expiriance at home.

Since im still on the old equipment ive really been tweeking it with what ive learned here. I really cant find anything wrong with the 4 yamaha speakers.
my reciever can play them up to about 87db cleanly and i cant imagine a speaker sounding much better. The sub even sounds pretty decent but i can tell its not as good as it could be and the klispsh center is garbage.

Will axiom's or whatever other high quality speaker really BE that much better sounding?
I have allways thought my little yamaha speakers sounded better than most other people speakers but they are definately not high end and they are getting old!

I cannot make the comparison for you, but I can tell you from experience one of the biggest improvements you can make to your setup is upgrading the speakers.

According to Stereophile, speakers with limited bass response that roll-off treble tend to sound better than ones which have full treble extension and limited bass response. This could be why your Yamaha speakers sound better than more expensive speakers. I'm also of the opinion that some modern speakers tend to have a much crisper, and in my mind, less relaxing sound, than older designs.
