Speaker question...

I have an LG system (HT963TA) that has 4 ohm speakers and I have a Kenwood receiver (VR-355). Can I use the speakers with this receiver?
The reason I ask is because I recently bought an LG 42" TV and it came with a surround sound system (HT963TA), but I still have my Kenwood receiver (VR-355) which is good except for one speaker is damaged.
Anyways, my Blu-Ray player is my PS3 and I wanted to be able to use surround with the Blu-Ray, but I don't know exactly what I should be connecting, or if I should be splitting things. Any help with this set-up would be great. You can let me know at me(at)stephmoreland(dot)com.

The manual for the VR-355 lists the allowable speaker impedances as 8-16 ohms. It's possible that it will handle those new speakers, but it's a risk.

I'd like to say that your new HT963TA has far more advanced surround sound decoding than does the VR-355. If you're using a source with six-channel analog outputs, then the VR-355 might be a decent option because it has six-channel analog inputs. Without those outputs, though, I'd probably pick the HT963TA. It's inputs are limited, but it does have an digital optical input - which can't handle the new lossless codes (like Dolby TrueHD), but it will handle Dolby Digital and DTS just great.

Hi Steph.

If your LG receiver has an HDMI input then use that to connect from your PS3Then connect an HDMI cable from the receiver to your TV.

The LG receiver has an HDMI out, but no in so I guess I should use an HDMI from the PS3 to the TV and then the digital audio out from the PS3 to the receiver and set the receiver to an AUX channel for the audio?
