Hi,

I am seting up a new A.V system for my apartment. Everything is going in-wall for space/aesthetic reasons (except sub). I am using RBH MC-83 in-walls for my front stage and MC-6DB for my surround. I have a question regarding placement in the walls. My center will go right above the TV but I could not accomodate the front right speakers on the side of the TV due to a pocket door frame that came too close. So I am planning on raising the front left and right speakers above that door frame hight. This means the speakers will be located about 7' high, just about 2' underneath the ceiling. Now I live in a loft and the ceiling is concrete. I am wondering if somehow the accoustic performance of the speaker will be reduced by such a high placement.

Thank you for taking the time to respond (my room is 25'x20' BTW)

Your center, left and right channel speaker should all be on the same axis, which should be ear level when sitting to watch a movie. This should be on the short 15' wall with the listening position about two thirds back (15').

The left and right channel should be kept away from the side walls as much as possible while still maintaining a wide sound stage.

In wall speakers are very hard to place since one can not test them for sound in the room without installing them so it is a severe compromise to use them simply for asthetic reasons IMO.

If you want to learn more on speaker placement, here is a link to some white papers from a well respected author. Good Luck.
