With the configuration of my living room I have no way for my front floor speakers to be symmetrical in relation to the TV. The right speaker is approximately 4.5’ from the TV and the left speaker is only a couple inches from the TV. I’m looking to upgrade over my old polks soon and am wondering if I should go with better floor speakers or get some bookshelves that would be symmetrical with the TV?

Iny experience, symmetry and placement are crucial to proper imaging. If that means you have to compromise with bookshelves then I would do that.

What’s your usage like: music to HT? Sub? How far do you sit from the speakers?

Mostly for movies occasionally music. No sub yet...figuring that out still. I sit about 15’ from the TV.

15' is a pretty good distance. Though I'm a tower man myself, I'd recommend making certain that if you do switch it up to standmounts, that you have a plan for the sub.

Most towers on the market still aren't a substitute for a good sub, but if you are getting FR down to mid 30's, say, you might not really know what you're missing. Especially in music. But a standmount that might only hit upper 40's? You'll be missing a lot of info.

Perhaps with the upgrade, you can can get a better speaker quality in a particular line's upper tier standmounts... and still budget for the sub. (Hell, you should do that anyway!)
