Speaker placement - Wall or Ceiling

I planning the family room in my future house and have some fundamental questions regarding speaker placement and type. We will be installing a surround system in the family room. It measures 19' X 22' with a fireplace on the longer wall where we plan to place a 50" plasma above the mantle. The room will have 10' ceilings. The main seating location will be 12' from the fireplace which will leave a 2' walking path behind it.

My question involves whether I look for a ceiling speaker that has a direction field to place above and behind the seating location or mount speakers in the wall behind the seating location. The main reason I'm looking for suggestions is that the wall where the speakers would be installed is like a blank canvas and is the best location for original art we have. If the wall location is the best I'll have to take speaker/art locations into consideration.

What should I take into consideration with this choice?

I believe a bi-polar in-wall design would work best due to your close proximity and 10' ceiling. Sonance and Klipsch products come to mind.
