Speaker noob here. Wondering if what I want actually exists...

Hi everyone. First off, I am a total speaker/audio noob. I know the bare basics of connecting speakers and getting sound to come out of them. That being said, I was hoping some of the experts here could help me find the kind of product I'm looking for--or let me know if it doesn't exist at all. I've tried searching the internet, but I can't quite nail down what I'm looking for:

I want 5.1 surround sound speakers where the satellite speakers are wireless. I don't care if the subwoofer or center speaker are wired, but I currently have an older 5.1 surround sound setup that utilizes wired satellite speakers, and the wires are unsightly and annoying to me.

I'm looking for something good, but I don't need the best. Unfortunately, I have a limited budget with which to work. I'm open to any and all suggestions, but if it's something that costs thousands (or even several hundred), I'm not going to be able to buy it. I can dream, though :D

Thank you for helping me out!

If you want then with no wires at all then you are out of luck I guess. Sonos has some wireless speakers but they still require power cords.

I understand that some wires will still be necessary, I just want something where the parts that are wired are all pretty much centrally located, with wireless satellite speakers so I don't have long wires stretching all over the room. I can live with some wires tucked away in a corner somewhere.

Did you understand tyhjaarpa's post above? An audio signal can be sent wirelessly, (ie. radio waves, bluetooth, cellphone, etc). But unless you have Nikola Tesla's secret notes, there is not a practical way to wirelessly transmit power. A speaker needs power to push the drivers. So unless there are some battery powered wireless speakers, you're still looking at power cords. Are you willing to have a power cord from each speaker to a wall outlet?

i got the impression the old 5.1 is one of those prewired soloutions... in that case open your mind take a breath and think..is the powercord from each speaker to the outlet more unsighty then a properly discreet speakercable?
Because in my world with my 7.1 setup the speaker cables are discreet and run along ceiling or lists. my powercables however.... i'd recommend do wires but get flatter or more discreet cables for the surround speakers! that is my tip.

in otherwords i think speakercables looks better and is more flexible then powercables.

This is probably the best solution to his problem. It's not perfect, but given the realities of the situation, it's probably the best that can be done for a reasonable price.

When I say not perfect, I mean that

a) The receiver (and transmitter) will need AC power.

b) The transmitter will need to be plugged into a preamp level output on the receiver, not a speaker output.

c) Each rear speaker will need to be wired to the receiver.

d) The receiver's amp is most likely not up to par with the amps in the receiver but should be "adequate" for movie surround duty..

So, if OP can live with these qualifications, he's found his solution.
