Hi,

This question might sound strange but I would like to get everybody's thoughts on the situation. So request yo'all to please bear with me :)

I have(used to have) a pair of Sonodyne Sonus series towers and a pair of Polk audio bookshelf speakers for rear surround along with a polk CS1 for center speaker and a Sonodyne sub. The amp/receiver that I used was an Onkyo one, mostly one of those entry level HT series one. I bought these speakers around 3 years back and used them for couple of months. I had to travel overseas due to a job requirement but what I did was pack all the speakers in my basement and keep it there.

Its been close to 2 1/2 years since those speakers have been used and they are kept in the box and I wanted to know whether by not using the speakers for this long, does it reduce the life of the speakers or their quality by any chance?

In my present location, I purchased a Denon AVR 1910 and a velodyne sub. I'm thinking if I need to go back to my home location, would I be able to use my old speakers or I'd rather purchase new speakers? I mostly watch movies with some occasional music listening.

Appreciate if someone can provide their inputs on this.

Thanks.

Assuming they were in good shape when you boxed them up and they were stored in a normal (not too dry, not too damp, hot too hot, not too cold) you should have many years of life left in them.

I agree, it shouldn't be a problem. Check them out and if they look and sound OK, it should be fine.

I don't see why it would be a problem as long as the environment isn't hostile and no critters have moved in. It's not uncommon to see internet companies selling brand new but long discontinued (new old stock) speakers that have been sitting in a warehouse for 3-4 years.

thanks guys! the boxes have been shrinkwrapped so I'm hoping no critters have entered inside :) ....

so basically, they should work fine even after years of non usage.

Thanks.

It's when you find the really old stuff at a garage sale with rotted surrounds that it's a sad case. But you rarely see that with anything made since the late 80s or early 90s.
