I went and listened B&W 683 speakers and was impressed. I've heard great things about the 684 which was the reason for my visit, but I wound up liking the 683 better. Also, listened to the next step in B&W CM 9 as well. It was hard to judge the CM9 versus the other 2 because they were bi-amped and connected to a better AVR.

I really liked the 683. Does anyone have any thoughts on this. Is their a better speaker in the same price range? The 683's were around $750ea.

interesting

i too also found 683's to be very nice speakers--soundstage and imaging where very good --PSB T-line is a recommendation to audition. i audition the imagine and image line and was very impress with their imaging and SQ . What will you be driving speakers with? As they say your ears will guide you to thr right speaker for you Good Luck

Onyko 608

I plan to try the PSB's this week. It doesn't seem any other speaker is more recommended than PSB.

Thanks for the advice

I'm looking for something that isn't too bright.

I was in the same boat and had the 683's on my short list. I went and listened to them and while they sounded great, I thought they were a little "soft" - almost polite.

I then listened to the Paradigm Monitor 9 and 11 and IMO they sounded fuller and had a better soundstage than the B&Ws. It is all a matter of preference of course, but I would suggest that you at least give the Paradigms a listen. The Monitor 11s are about $1500 a pair also.

I love my Onkyo 608 and they drive my Paradigm Titans very nicely.

I didn't have an opportunity to listen to the PSB's, so let me know what you think. I'm curious what they sound like.

Will do.

I was hoping to listen to the PSB image T6 and the Imagine T, but unfortunately I only know one place in Dallas who carries PSB and they don't carry the Image T6. Image T6 is supposed to be a great speaker for the money $600ea. Maybe someone else can chime in on that.

About 2 years ago i went out demoing speakers & listened to Mirage Klipsch PSB DefTech B&W Paradigms & a few more. I fell in love with the B&W 683 & got them. I have never one time regretted my buy. That is not to say any of the other brands werent as good. But for my taste & what i wanted to use them for the 683 got my attention & kept it. They are unbelievable for movies. Music sound incredible but i admit that the CM9 takes the cake on music but only in the mid-range & highs, because the 683 has a more authority in the mid-bass range. But they still sound great for music & can only tell a small difference when compared side by side. But paired with a good sub (or 2) they both sound rich & dynamic. Paradigms are a little too bright for my taste.

That said...you need to listen listen listen. What i love might not be what you love so check out other brands, take music & movies with you to listen to & keep in mind whats powering them & the environment because in demoing, those things play a key role in what you hear.

HAPPY HUNTIN!!

(feel free to ask me anything you'd like to know about them & id be happy to help ya!)

I'm somewhat torn on whether to go for towers with better bass or better highs. I bought a good sub.(Sunfire TS-EQ 12") so it may be smart to go with the speakers with the better highs since I bought a good sub. My fear is that they will sound too bright.

I would pass on the B&W's.
Look into Paradigm, PSB, Revel, Focal.
You can do much better (and accurate) for the price.

I listened to the PSB's and Paradigm today. Unfortunately they only had the Monitor 9. They didn't have the Monitor 11's. I thought the Paradigm's sounded great, but I was blown away with the PSB Imagine T. It didn't take me long to decide once I heard the PSB's. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the Imagine T's. My main concern with the towers is music. Personally I believe the sub is the key to movies and the towers are key to music. The Imagine sounded great with music. I wasn't planning to spend that much $2000, but once I heard them I couldn't help it. The sound difference was enough for me to spend the extra money. Also, love the way they look compact and stylish. Was surprised such a small speaker had such great sound.

I had to order the speakers since they didn't have the black ones in stock so I have to wait some before I can get them home. I can't wait to hear them with my sub (Sunfire TS-EQ 12). That is on order right now as well. I should get it tomorrow, but I live in Dallas and the roads have been iced over for 2 days now which is almost unheard of in Texas. Therefore I may or may not be able to get the sub tomorrow. I hope it comes in. I need it for the superbowl. I have some old towers I can use until the PSB's come in.

Congratulations. I'd be afraid of listening to them because, well, nevermind!

I guess Canadians know how to build good speakers for a good price.

Congrats!

Thanks

Eventually I will pick up the center as well, but it may be a while.

Now I see why so many people recommend PSB's.
