Speaker cutting out

What is wrong is that at times a speaker will cut out. All I need to do is turn up the volume and it comes back on, then I can reduce the volume with both channels still working. But eventually the one speaker will go out again.
I`ve looked at you tube and someone has a few videos on the same amp I have and what he did to fix his intermittant speaker outage. He says he took out the speaker relay, cleaned the contacts and slightly bent the metal in the relay to get better contact.
I have replaced the speaker wires and have opened the speaker box to look for loose connections and have found none.
Does this sound like what I may have to do?
I am not so electronically inclined.
My system is a Fisher CA-283 amp with a FM-270 tuner.
Thanks for any help.

The first thing to check are the connections of the speaker wire, but you seem to have done that.

In most cases, with one channel cutting out intermittently, the problem is not in the speaker itself. You can test this by switching your right speaker for your left speaker and playing it that way. If the problem does not switch sides, you will know it isn't the speaker.

Another question is, does the problem occur with all of your sources (radio, CD, whatever), or does it only occur with one source? If it occurs only with one source, the problem likely is that source (or its connection), but if the problem occurs with all sources, then you are looking at something wrong with your Fisher CA-283 amplifier.

Now, if you are not a "handy" sort of person, and are uncomfortable doing anything inside the amplifier, then don't. In such a case, you will either need to have it repaired, or simply replace it.

You might try to do, or have done, what the youtube video said. That's not an unheard of problem with older equipment.

As was said before, once you isolate it to something inside the amp, there's not much else you can do without getting your hands dirty.
