Why? Provided the cables are quality (ie copper) and he likes how they look, what's the problem? People spend money on art, jewelry, clothes, furniture, or any number of things based on how they look.

I'm not recommending that everybody go out and spend $100 on flashy cables - I'm strictly a monoprice man. AcuDefTechGuy has plenty of nice toys and if he wants some shiny looking cables to go along with them, what's wrong with that? He knows that cables are cables - we all do. This is just buying something that is aesthetically pleasing.

The penalty is in handling for sure, but on Top Gear the Tesla beat a standard Elise, so there's no penalty in speed. There's also the price difference...and they commented on the fact that you could buy 3 Elises for the price of one Tesla.

I mean a blu-ray movie already costs $20-$30 each.

Dinner at a restaurant easily costs $40+ for two.

Everytime I go to Wal-Mart and buy simple things and groceries, it seems like I spend $100+ easily.

Agreed on all except $30 for a Blu-ray. If you look or wait you can get most "normal" releases under $20 easily. If that means I have to wait a few weeks after it came out to get it, so be it. Compared to $8400 for cables, $100 is not unreasonable, but is also still not cheap I'd rather spend $100 on dinner than cables too, even though it is food.

Right, and they are worth $50 to me The time putting them together is considered double value because I get some entertainment and satisfaction out of knowing that I did it myself in the end.

Might wanna check out Liberty Cable Z500 series speaker cables. They had a bunch on clearance last time i checked on their website. I ended up getting a set of speaker cables and a few pairs of interconnects. pretty good prices for what you get.

If somebody wants to spend a little extra on looks, I've no problem with that

One concern though is that some of the mega-buck, fancy-looking speaker cables out there actually DEGRADE signal quality in measureable and audible ways. They act as a passive EQ and that is something that you definitely want to avoid, regardless of how cool they look!

For me, I really like Axiom Audio's bulk speaker wire. For one thing, it has a black jacket! I've no idea why that is so hard to find (Blue Jeans, Monoprice, etc.), but I just really prefer to have a black, basically invisible speaker wire rather than a white, grey or clear wire. Second, I think the price is a LITTLE on the high side, but it's still under $1/foot, so I'm ok with it Third, it is really, really flexible and has a nice texture and feel. It's super easy to route and it stays where you put it, so I like it for those reasons. Some of the less expensive bulk wire is a bit stiffer or has a more slick outer jacket. It's pretty minor stuff in the grand scheme of things, but I enjoy using a wire that's so easy to work with.

I just screw some Monoprice banana plugs onto the ends and I'm all set! Nice, black, super-flexible 12 gauge speaker wire for under $1/foot is perfect for me But I'm in the opposite end of the looks quest - I don't want to notice my speaker wires at all!
