Speaker Advice required, Sub/Monitors

Hi All, im new here

I am currently seeking advice on my set-up, i am into many genre's of music, but the most played/created is ambient drum'and'bass.

Now as its ambient there isn't any MC'ing over the top of the songs, hence a nice peaceful beat and mellow tune, heres where i need the advice on what speakers to use.

Im currently looking at a pair of Active Studio monitors, and an active subwoofer, this means i don't have to mess about matching amplifiers to speakers and im quite short on space in my studio.

I have come accross a Tapco by Mackie SW10 Subwoofer www.tapcogear.com, its within my price range and drops to 34hz frquencies where most of my beats ly. I can't find a decent manufacutred subwoofer to drop to a low enough frequency witohut going down the car audio in the house route.

I would like your advice on products like thes,e or infact if anybody has used active monitors and finds them a good buy. as said above i don't want to have amplifiers sitting all over the place.

You haven't looked far enough for subs then. The SVS PB-10 will do 20Hz no problem, in a typical room at just $429. Mackie makes great stuff though, so I'm sure that one sounds good, but with a -3dB of 34Hz, it probably isn't going to totally cut the mustard. Car audio in the house doesn't work well, those drivers rely on cabin gain.

I haven't heard Fostex or Alesis, but the Mackie monitors sound great. KRK might be another thought if that's the way you're leaning.

I listen to a lot of techno/trance/ambient too, and a sub that can reach low can be very handy.
