Ha Ha. I don't have to drive at all. It flies right over my house. :D
Lucky bastaad. :D I've seen it go up once or twice from as far away as Tampa - when they've done evening launches, and on a very clear, dry night. Of course, it's off in the distance, so you don't get the effect like you do up close, but it's still cool to see it even from here. :)

They launch rockets here all the time. But nothing is as impressive to watch as the Space Shuttle. Night launches are especially awesome.

If you haven't seen a shuttle launch before, your time is running out. Only 12 more launches before the Space Shuttle program is retired forever.
Actually, the Saturn 5 and the Titan 4 launches were much more impressive.

It pays to have lived here your whole life :p

All of the space shuttles are...um...well...ancient. They are old technology and no one has been willing to really put forth the money to build something more modern.

Enterprise never flew in space.

Columbia first launch was - 1981.
Challenger first launch - 1982.
Discovery first launch - 1983.
Atlantis first launch - 1985.
Endeavour first launch - 1992 (replaced Challenger).

Orbiter fleet facts.

The fleet is supposed to be retired in 2010.
