Soundproofing for DVR "Hum"

I recently moved to another town & signed up for broadband TV service. The DVR that was provided has a very distracting "hum". Since the DVR is located in a cabinet, the echoing tends to amplify the noise. Can someone suggest a soundproofing material to help absorb the noise? Thank you kindly.

My DVR hard drive hums like mad too, even when the unit is off. I too used an old mouse pad to make isolation feet, and something weighty on top at least quells the chassis resonance, but when the tv is off and the music is on, the cable box/DVR is generally unplugged.

You may be able to help the cabinet resonance with some Dynamat or equivalent. Hardware stores often carry it (in the plumbing section, it's used on stainless steel sinks) for pretty cheap.
