Has anyone compared these two pre/pro's? Is there any difference in SQ?

Trying to decide if the Athem D2 is worth $2k more than the AVM 50...

What are their specs? Most likely it will not be worth it if they are well designed:D

Thanks!

I am hoping to hear from some owners of the D1 who upgraded from
the AVM 20 or AVM 30. There are a couple of features available on the
D1 that are not available on the AVM 20 or 30 that I could live without
if the SQ was similiar.

So no owners here to comment?

Looks that way:D
It should be an issue of needs from a component and flexibility to meet your needs for now and a while longer.

Thanks.

It is looking like the AVM 40 more and more :)

There is a couple features on the Statement product I can live without
and with a $6700 m.s.r.p. on the D2 vrs. $3700 m.s.r.p. on the AVM 40
makes the decision pretty easy :)

The AVM 40 is really the AVM 30 with HMDI 1.1 inputs and the D2
is really the D1 with HDMI 1.1 inputs and a Gennum Video Processor chip.
I believe high end displays will strart to have high end video processing
by next year if not by end of this year...

I also asked Anthem and they said that "there is a difference but it is
not huge" and you would need something recorded exceptionally
well to even hear the difference.

I seriously doubt you would hear a difference when properly compared:D

I agree. But I am sure a number of people who end up buying the statement product's convince
themselves that they do :)

It's not because you are trying to convince yourself that the D2 is not worth it over the AVM40 or AVM50 that you need to put down D1/D2 owners that are perfectly happy with their choices.

You got good answers in another forum, and even a link to Secrets website where some people there where also discussing the same subject.

It's totally legitimate to choose the AVM40/AVM50 over the D1/D2, but the opposite is also true. No wrong decisions. They sell alot of those D2 right now, and they will sell alot of those AVM40/50 also.

You should try to bring both home and do your own comparison in your room and with your gear. And if you want, you could come back and write your own impressions.

Actually Levesque I have yet to get any answer on any forum regarding
someone who upgraded from the AVM 20/30 to the D1 and reported a
noticable difference in SQ. One person said they compared both and were
happy they bought D1 but that was is.

Please point me to where I got "good answers in another forum" ...

Please, convince me :)

Another factor too is, it also depends on the rest of the system, from source to loudspeakers and room acoustics. When you get to the Anthem separates class of gear you may need some higher resolution speakers to hear that subtle differences (if audible to you at all) between the AVM and D models. I once AB a lowly RX-V2400 to an Anthem separates system and could not really hear much difference through a few pairs of Paradigm Studios and the S2. That said, I do have great respect for the Polk LSI's, but you are now talking about the Anthem D1................

I hope you would get a response from one of those owners who did such upgrade but in the end your sense of hearing in your environment may differ.

Have you read this review of the AVM-30?

http://www.avrev.com/equip/anthemavm30/

I would be reluctant to tie up more money in a pre/pro right now.

If your signal source is CD/DVD, I'd put more money into that or dac's

Unless you have a signal specifc reason to upsample all your inputs...

Yes, thanks. The AVM 40 is basically a AVM 30 with 4 HDMI 1.1 inputs.
It will allow me to input the already decoded DTS-HD and TrueHD
audio formats from a High Def DVD player and offer the SQ of the AVM 30.
