Sound-Not Loud Enough

I have had my Pioneer Elite VSX-LX101 receiver for a little over a week now and overall have been happy with it. It replaced a VSX43 (that was damaged by a lightning strike) so I should be somewhat familiar with settings but then this is a latest release receiver. I also have this receiver setup as 5.1.

Problem (minor) is loudness of sound I can get. So far all I have replaced since this lightning damage, is a Sony smart tv and the Directv receiver. So when viewing DTV, loudness of sound is no problem, just turn it up and it is as loud as I need it. But when viewing from the tv smart app, either Netflix or Amazon Instant Video, I keep turning up the sound (via remote) and I cant get it loud enough. Oh, sound is not too low to hear it but just not loud (dynamic?) enough especially dialogue.

I did run MCAAA during initial setup and then I know how to increase center channel manually, but I thought maybe there was some other setting I needed to make. TIA

Did you use the HDMI audio return option or the digital output from you smart TV?

HDMI ARC and HDMI CEC are both on. I am sure that part is correct. I am getting 5.1 sound from my smart tv for the Netflix and Amazon. Its just that I can turn the sound up when watching Directv thru my av receiver speakers and I get a quiet sound with the smart tv apps, not too low to hear just cant turn it up for rich sound

Does your receiver have an adjustment for input level by source? Mine does to help even out different sources....

If it does, I dont see it. There is a Basic Manual (in the box) and an Advanced Manual (online). I dont see it there or dont recognize it anyway. Thanks for trying to help!

You may want to try using the TV's digital output (coax or optical) and see if that makes a difference.

I did check the "basic manual" at the Pioneer site....it certainly was basic and either your avr has less features than Elites of the past or its just not a very good manual, hard to know. Do you have a link to the advanced manual? My old Pioneer VSX919 had more features than are apparent in the basic manual. I wouldn't think your tv would have a level adjustment for a digital signal, I'd start to think the tv was at fault.

ps Can you give us an idea in dB what the difference in levels are?

Here's the link for the Advanced Manual. Not much better written than the basic manual.
