Sound Loss

I was watching the Dark knight and I lost sound a couple of times. I had to pause the movie and then the sound came back. It has also happened on regular TV a couple of times. Is it the movie? or some other problem. I went to yamaha to see if they had some info. Yamaha has a firmware update that I believe is supposed to fix a similar issue. However, I can't get it install. It requires a regular CD player because of some filters in most DVD players. Do you all know of any work around?

Using HDMI? How is the receiver gettng the audio?

The audio is all HDMI. Blue ray and Directv into AVR by HDMI and 1 HDMI out to TV. Thre Blue ray has the most current firmware.

Do you have another HDMI cable? They sometimes lose the digital "handshake" and audio dropouts can result.

Sounds like the Yamaha firmware update is your next step; even if you have to borrow a CD player.

How do you know that? I mean, you don't know how to check your FW, and you know that? You posted the above two minutes before this post below . . .

How can I tell the firmware version on my player?

Clarification: I did a FW update when the blue ray was purchased. However, I would like to check the version to see if it is the most current version. Somehow, I have lost myself in the menu and I can't seen to remember how to check the version. The messages were not intended to make anyone mad.....

Just needed some help since I seem to have two issues, AVR and BR!

One suggestion would be to turn on the Blu player last and see what happens.

It's not the movie. I just watched it this weekend, but it sounds like your disc may have a problem. Examine it for scratches.
