Hi,

I need help on my Harmon Kardon AVR 20II. The problem is it output the sound at the very low volume when the volume knob is cranked up to the maximum level. Look like it happens on every speaker channels. It is hard to hear the sound and I did turn the volume knob to the maximum level. I used the CD player. I also test it on the Tuner for radio and same sound output too; the volume level is so low and hard to hear when the volume level is set to maximum level. Do you know why?

I also notice that when I press "Test" button to test the speaker channels, the sound is ok because I hear the volume increases as I increase the volume level.

I think there might be a speaker selector switch on that. Check the manual over carefully to make sure you're activating the correct speakers.

Alright, I looked. If both Speaker 1 and Speaker 2 are pushed in and only one set of speakers is connected to the receiver, no sound will be heard.

Turn your volume down before you do anything.

I connected to one set of speakers and I did push Speaker 1 button. If I set the volume level to mid way, then I will not hear anything. I have to turn the volume level to max level to hear something. This must be weird.

Out of the 3 different AVR20II that I've seen, one works fine, one has a blown phono stage and the third is completely fried. What is your source? So long as it's not Phono you can try a different input on the rec'r. Does the headphone jack work? The amp stage could be fried. Is the rec'r new to you or have you had it working before?

Bedtime for me.

I bought it as a brand new 15 years ago; but I shelved on the storage room after two years of use. I thought it still work; but it is not. I have not tried the headphone jack and I think the amp stage might be fried.
