Sound coming thru when built in amp is off

Hi guys, I'm not in the sub section much but I have a question.
When the built in amp on my sub is off, I still get sound out of it. The volume knob on the sub even makes it louder when I turn it up. Does this make sense? I understand some signal may come down the wire even if the built in amp is off but should the volume knob be doing anything? When I turn the amp on, I hear the same information but much louder. Does this make sense?

Sounds like you have a faulty power switch.

It does if you connected the sub to the receiver using the high level inputs, especially if you hear the sound when the stereo is cranked. If that's the case, it's just leakage- if the crossover is a simple passive design and all that happens when the power switch is OFF is that the power is off but there's no signal interruption, it can still get through or transfer to other components by induction, but at a much lower level.

Also if your using RCA cables to get audio to the sub, make sure they are not touching each other. Once in a while my cat will walk behind it and bump the cables to make them touch, I get the buzzing you do.
