sound chops off with Pioneer VSX-1015TX

From time to time, the sound is missing for a split second (~1/5 sec) and then returns. This happens on all satellite channels. I've tried two different model of satellite receivers and have the same problem (therefore eliminating a sat receiver issue). I've tried both the analog and digital inputs of the Pioneer receiver (satellite receiver sends both), and the Pioneer receiver does this drop in sound on both inputs. I noticed it to happen more often when there's a change in the sound type being played as example from voice only to voice + other sound (other sound being music or other kind of noise (car, etc.).

Do I have a defective receiver ?

That loss of sound is an issue of a signal loss. It happens with sat signals.

Humm, I have another sat receiver in another room playing through TV speakers and this never happens. Actually, this never happened before until I've put the VSX-1015TX receiver.

Well, maybe it is loosing the signal for that fraction?

Try the receiver in that other room and see if you can replicate the problem. If it replicates, call maker and see what they have to say on this.

Check the settings

I just got the 1015TX and had a similar problem with certain channels on the HD Cable box receiver. It turns out that deeper in the Cable Box menu I needed to change a setting so that the right signal went to the Receiver. Check the settings for the output of your Sat Box. It might be similar. Once I adjusted the settings on the cable box, the signal strength was consistent and no drop-out.

I actually had a problem like this with my Marantz receiver, I had to send it in for repairs, thankfully under warranty. But the DSP board was cracked, and they tried to re-solder it, but that didnt fix it either, so they had to actually replace the whole DSP board. Since then I havent had a problem, you might actually have a defective unit that needs repairs. But the exact same problem happened to me, only on signal via Digital Coax or Fiberoptic.

A little Complicated

...But try to follow:


Within the settings on the cable box was an option for Digital output. I had it selected to HDMI, but when I changed it to "Other" it strengthened the signal going through the Coaxial cable to the receiver so the dropout went away.

it's very possible the problem has been there all along and that the audio equipment you had was not sophisticated enough to pick it out. the Pioneer very well may be accurately re-producing what's there... it's just that what's there is not what you really want to hear...
