Sound card with optical out to DAC ???

I have a inexpensive sound card that has an optical out on it and suports 24 bit FLAC. I am thinking of running it to my pre-amp that has a 24/192 DAC built in. I would guess this would sound better than just running a mini-RCA from the sound card to the aux input.

Thoughts???

I run the optical out from my sound card to an old receiver and it works great. What I like to use for playing FLACs is Winamp.
