This is going to be either a software failure or a hardware chip failure.

The first thing to do is a soft reset by unplugging from AC for at least 10 min. If that fails do a hard reset, look at your manual for that.

These TVs are known for this, due to a eMMC chip failure apparently. These sort of circuits are known as flip/flop circuits. Capacitor failures in these type of circuits can cause the problem you are having.

If a hard reset does not solve it, I don't think there is anything else you can do.

I noticed a purple tiny in one spot that is noticeable on Netflix but not the spectrum app. I’ll check Blu-ray also sometimes ..

Yeah wait til it completely breaks , are Samsung or lg less prone to this ?? This tv lasted 10 years or so.

Seriously, I have no life.
Did you try using a different HDMI cable? The purple area may be a problem with the screen but lack of signal can be caused by the cable.

I don't think any other brand is going to be generically better for long term reliability. Do you smoke by chance or have pets?

dogs and cats but I never seen one run into the screen .
So continue to use Sony most likely it’s hard to move my lcd downstairs it has a better sub than the ones hooked to this 55”. You could say better mains downstairs but the upstairs surround is better setup. I’ve tried a factory reset and different cables so far . The xbr could last another few years but I’ll be dealing with purple tint , hopefully it doesn’t get worse.

I was worried about hair specifically. Not saying that is your issue but it can cause problems after 10 years. When dealing with hair and dander you'd be surprised at what damage it can cause. Do you hear the fan coming on shortly after turning the display on? It is more likely a failed component, just want to rule out it isn't something else.

No I don’t hear the fan at all. I could turn off the receiver and check . I dust the top of the tv often were the air vents are. So far haven’t found any settings that gets rid of the purple hue spot. The tv had some bleeding issues before in dark films but they got better this is different. Lowering brightness to 30 didn’t do anything.
