Here's something interesting, Found a good deal at BB and got a Sony STRDG1000 $380 from $800 retail, the bad part is it came with no remote or power cord, I took care of that got the system running with official Sony remote and all.
I think I walked out with a good deal, it's not the same as my old Yamaha but it's a much nicer unit, HDMI, component setting and such. Only thing I liked a bit more on the Yamaha was the music modes. Now I need new speakers and some setting recommendations, got the 14gauge wires, got some good component cables, all I need is better speakers, running 4 Sony speakers, 2 are 8omh and 2 are 6omh. It's odd, I never thought I would end up taking home a Sony receiver, I originally wanted Denon 2807, or a Yamaha but at the price I got this bad boy I had to take it home, more money towards other toys.

Looks fairly nice for a Sony.;)

You won't find many Sony fans here. Having owned one of their receivers, I'm not one.

I like the looks and features of the Sony STRD-1000, It seems like a nice receiver with good build quality. I would own one if I wanted to jump into the HDMI game, but still would prefer Denon, Yamaha, Onkyo, H/K, or Marantz.;)

For $380 it seems like a good deal.

also i do kind of know a little about this unit , as i am currently running a strdg800(vsx84txsi on order) and well i just hope yours has real hdmi audio , rather that that pass through crap i have to deal with , also that was a great deal , i paid $500 for mine, and for the speakers maybe the infinity primus series would work well

The STRDG1000 does audio processing, that is why they called it "Blu-ray Ready"

Speaker budget is around $500-600 for now for the front ones and possibly if there anything left for a center channel. I've looked at the Cambridge Sound works M80's but they are harder to come by. There's no more Cambridge Sound works speaker on sale on eBay from the factory anymore. What do you guys recommend?

Went on eBay, looked up the Cambridge Soundworks M80. They had a pair that had one of the grills damaged, the upper pins are broken on one, or can be super glued. nabbed them at $148 the pair and picked it up locally at a pawn shop 10mins from my house. They are in excellent construction, they are in excellent condition besides the grill in one of the speakers, will call CSW for a quote on a new one, had to get them considering new they retail for $500 new, $400 b-stock, they used to have an eBay store and they used to be $360.

My friend recommended me another speaker also, Martin Logan Mosaic, new pair retail for $1600, I can get the pair for around $750, I am really tempted to get those and either use the M80s or sell them for a profit, I think for my apartment the M80's might work. If I do stay with the M80's I am looking into getting the stand they have.

Looks like I am going a bit crazy with the setup at the moment. Don't know where things will take me.

This question may sound silly since it appears you already answered it, but I just want to make sure before I spend $500 on this unit :)

I purchased and returned the STR-DG800 because the HDMI pass-through would not allow the receiver the process the audio from the HDMI cable. I am wondering if this issue is resolved with the STR-DG1000. In other words I want to connect 2 HDMI devices to the receiver and have the video pass through to my HDTV while still allowing the audio from the same HDMI cables to output from the receiver.

Thanks for your time :)

EDIT: I emailed Sony a week or two ago on this and they have yet to reply...go figure.

The STR-DG1000 can process audio and pass video simultaneously on one HDMI cable, that is correct. It is their highest model without getting the ES badge.
