Sony STR-DE845

I have just acquired a Sony STR-DE845, all functions seem to work well except for one thing. The blue LED above the display window does not light up but I know the LED is OK because it will light up when a voltage is applied directly to it. Can anyone tell me if this can only be turned on/off with the remote control. I do not have a remote control for this unit.

There is a good chance it only lights up when it is doing something specific, like on their SACD players, the blue light only comes on if a SACD is playing vs a CD, etc...

I have the same receiver, the light only comes on when it's decoding or receiving a multichannel signal. (if you read the fine print above the light it says "Multichannel Decoding")

BTW, enjoy this old receivers surround output. Since my friend sold it to me he's been trying to acquire another one since all the new receivers he's bought hasn't been as nice for movies/surround as the old STR-DE845 is. Too bad I can't say the same thing for it's two channel music output quality (but I'm comparing to my old Carver separates system.)
