Hello all. I have a setup problem/question.

I setup my DVD player to Sony TV(KDF-E42A10) through a HDMI cable, and the audio output from the Sony TV to the HK by the optical out.

the problem is no signal is being recognized by the HK reciever.

anyone else have a this kind of problem? They reason I ran the audio out from the TV is because the DVD player does not have a optical output, but it does work through the Coax to the HK.

I contacted Sony, and they say that the TV only sends output through the optical audio if the input is Digital Dolby or PCM from the HDMI, Cable or VHF/UHF connection..

wierd, sounds like it should work. Is there anyway to test if the optical cable is sending a signal?

Don't send the optical from the TV - send it straight from the DVD player. You should be able to tell the DVD player in a set-up menu that audio is going to come from an optical cable. Which DVD player do you have?

Cheers!

There is pretty much never a time when you will want to use the digital audio output from the TV to the receiver. Like godfatherofsoul said, go directly from the player to the receiver.
