Hello, this is my first post and of course I have a question.

My brother bought a new system and I got his old one. It's pretty used and I don't expect much from it. But I have a little problem with the bigger loudspeakers. The cord comes straight out of the box and I have no clues which one is + and which one is -. One of the cords in the cord (you probablt know what I mean) has grooves and the other one don't.

I think you can guess my question. My brother have had them plugged in for so long and when he took the system down he didn't think of remember how it was plugged in.

I would be really happy for an answer to this (for me) mystery.

Welcome to the forum!

I didn't see any information on that system on the web (I only took a quick look, though). Is the system a Sony/Gylling S-260?

If you connect the cables backwards (e.g. "+" cable into the "-" terminal), it won't damage anything. The speakers will be out of phase, though, so the sound won't be as intended. If you do a search on the internet for "determine speaker phase", you'll find some info on that. If the speakers are out of phase, the imaging and bass will be degraded.

So, you could hook them up one way and listen, then switch the cables and listen, and then decide which hook up sounds the best to you.
