Sony DVP-NS3100ES or SCD-2000ES

Would the Sony DVP-NS3100ES or SCD-2000ES be the better SACD player? Thanks.

Depends on whether or not you want DVD capability. Otherwise, I would say they will be similar in capability. What exactly are you looking for? I wouldn't invest a lot of money in SACD right now as its future as a format isn't good.

Thanks for the reply. I am purchasing the player for use as my SACD player. I already have a Blu Ray and DVD player, so that isn't needed. I can get either for between $250-$350, which I figured would be a good middle of the line SACD player. The DVP-NS3100ES retails for more, but I didn't know if that is just because of the DVD compatability. It might be a better or worse SACD player than the SCD-2000ES, but I haven't seen much on this online. As far as SACD goes, I already have a few titles in SACD and want to be able to play them on a better player than a base model.
One more question, can the DVP-NS3100ES output DVD's audio through the analog out? Thanks.

Yes, the NS3100 should be able to play anything except DVD-A tracks through the analog outs. I have a 222ES, which is the predecessor of the 2000ES and it is still going strong. It sounds like you have video already handled, so I'd go with the 2000ES.

You might also consider the Oppo 980H. For the price, it is a very decent player; I sold mine in anticipation of their upcoming Blu-ray + SACD player www.oppodigital.com

Thanks for the reply. I have another question generally about SACD players. If I am listening to a stereo only SACD, do I have to (or would it be better quality) to have a set of stereo cables connected to my receiver in addition to the surround cables? Thanks.

No, one set of cables for multichannel works fine for stereo or 2.1. I have a number of discs that are stereo only and only the 6 cables connected.
