I can't answer to the 400 DVD disk model, but my wife bought the 200 disk CD model a couple of years ago. I worked well until the warranty expired, then the changing mechanism started dropping CD's inside, behind the carousel. It would also jam trying to put more than one CD per slot. One CD actually was broken when misaligned with the slot and the carousel rotated.

It is now residing in a landfill somewhere.

Yes, dont go with Sony at all. Avoid them at all cost. I think they have nice looking TV's but I have never owned a new (2004+) TV, so I dont know. The reliability on most of of their equipment is crap.

Their tv's, even the newer ones are still good, but their home audio equipment leaves a lot to be desired.

My family personally have had a lot of great Sony experiences. My brother is still using my old STR-DE845 which about 6 years old well past the 1y waranty let alone an ES...

My dad has their STR-DA1ES which is great sounding. I had a Single disk play that lasted almost 3 years before it went bad and have now Purchase the DVP-NC80V, so I won't hesitate to suggest going with the 995 which has HDMI and scaling..
