Sonos Connect Amp & Yamaha Receiver

I have a Sonos Connect Amp that is connected to my four in ceiling speakers. I also have a Yamaha amp that is connected to the same speakers in the ceiling. The Sonos plays fine. When I turn the amp on for surround sound, I get a “Check SP Wires” error message. What I am I doing wrong?

Why do you have two different amps connected to the same speakers without a switch in between? Or is there one?

Why wouldn’t you just connect the Sonos to the Yamaha receiver as an input and let the Yamaha drive the speakers?
