<font color='#000000'>can someone tell me how to hook up a eq I have(optimus ten band stereo eq) and I have a pioneer vsx-5600....I don't know what wires to plug my eq to the receiver.I keep reading about tape out and in but on mine in the back it has....tape1/dat,tape2,vcr1,vcr2,video,pre-amp&gt;front,center,rear L,rear R and all the amps has these metal pieces in them....also I have a line and phono.The rest are speaker inputs....on all the input/output holes for the ones listed above they don't say that they are,they are only in red and white and has &quot;L&quot; and &quot;R&quot; respectively.....and last but not least on the EQ in the back it says &quot;main&quot; and under that it says,in&amp;out in red and white,then there is tape1 and tape2 with the same thing under it.........
So after that long azz note could someone help me with my problem</font>

<font color='#000000'>The Tape connections probably have either In/Out or Rec/Play jacks. 2 in and 2 out. The tape outputs feed the EQ input. The EQ output goes back the Tape inputs. Then select the Tape monitor function on the Pioneer. This allows any source you select to feed to EQ and return to the L/R path.

The problem with this is that if you apply surround decoding, it will proably be decoding the equalized signal, which could affect the process adversely. If you only listen in stereo it is fine.</font>

and you are tellin me to make sure that the surround is turned off on the tv?</font>

<font color='#000000'>also the cords that I'm using I wanna make sure that I am using the right colors....its a four way cord consisting of red&amp;black and yellow and green(I put together like that because the cords are you know aligned together like on one side it is red and there is black then on the other side the same thing with the yellow and green.....

<font color='#000000'>No, &nbsp;what he means is the surround processing of your receiver. Really to be completely honest with you and since you are a novice as you said. I would not use the EQ at all if I were you. Without proper test tones and a sound level meter or a spectrum analyzer you will be doing more harm then good. Improper use of an EQ can cause clipping of your amp and harm to your speakers. Really unless you know exactly what you are doing then I would not use it. I mean absolutely no disrespect when I say this so please do not take it that way.</font>

Regarding hooking up your EQ

I have this receiver, and already had a 20-band EQ with Spectrum Anylizer, which I wanted to use. I found the only way I could hook up the EQ and still use all my other functions properly was to hook it to the receiver's pre-amp hookups. Your EQ outs go to the pre-amp ins, and vice-versa. I'm sure you probably already figured this out by now, but I thought I'd let you know. It seems to be the only way to equalize EVERYTHING I listen to, including TV, etc.
