so whats your favorite "listening mode" for sports ?

as long as we are watching the SB,
what have you found is the best "listening mode" for sports like NFL games ?
(on a 7.1 system)

Stereo......... I am a 2 channel guy.

When using speakers if the program is not in surround sound I usually use multi-channel stereo, and if it is in surround sound I use Dolby Digital PLIIx. When using headphones I use the “virtual” setting on my Denon (not sure if other manufactures call it that).

On my Yamaha, its "sports" mode under the entertainment sound field. It does an awesome job relegating the action and announcer to the front speakers and having the audience sound coming from the surrounds. I'll never watch another sports even in stereo ever again. This is the ticket for me .

I usually use PLIIx music to enhance the "feel" of the game, but the sound of NBC's broadcast last night was good enough on it's own. I used Pure Direct.
(I don't send the HDMI signal thru the receiver.)

I use the THX game mode. I find it to be sufficient. That was a great game last night with the exception that an evil team won. Evil steelers paid the refs very well.

He did say sports. Generally though sports have little to offer even in DD, but of all the sports that come to mind, Nascar IMO is the most enjoyable in 5.1 dolby digital.

I haven't had TV programming in my home for a year now. When I did, depending on the sportscaster, I might turn down center speaker to minimum level.

If I turn it off, then the dialogue downmixes to the mains. Not good enough! IMO, it's well worth delving into the audio menu to not have to hear Tim McCarver's nonsense.

When you do that, it's like you're at the game. Crowd noise only.

On my Onkyo I like PLIIx Sports mode. It feels you're at the stadium.
