Heres my deal. I wanna yamaha 7.1. I'm going to get either axiom or paradigm floorstanding speakers. What watt receiver should I get?
Does it matter? I'm going to have a panasonic pt4000u projector. I wanna spend under $400 for receiver if I can. Also it seems these receivers come with hundreds of perks, which ones are must have for a projector? Sorry for the million questions, thanks guys in advance....big fan of you all...... JG

Being a old Yamaha man myself, when it came to receivers, you need more power than bells and whistles. That's why I recently went with separates. Receivers don't have enough room for performace as they use to. If you can only go up to 400.00, I'd shop around for the highest powered one I could get on SALE. Be it Yamaha, Denon or Onkyo. You'll need a performance type receiver to enjoy those speakers. Good luck.

Yamaha builds a solid AVR..
To prepare for future expansion of adding component amplifiers, be sure to get one with Pre-Outs..
Yamaha has a good feature comparison tool on their website..

Just my $0.02... ;)

It does matter but only to a certain extent. IIRC paradigms are harder to drive then axioms. How much power you need depends on several things, how loud do you plan on listening, how effecient your speakers are, the impedance curve of your speakers, how big your room is etc etc. Also, keep in mind just because your receiver claims 100wpc doesen't mean it can deliver it without going into severe clipping. As far as the projector question goes, i'm pretty sure that any receiver with HDMI will work fine with a projector assuming the projector is an HDMI projector. How much do you plan on spending? What sorts of features do you want?
