I would be real interested if someone would put scope probes into an outlet in a "normal" residence and give us a good picture of exactly what this "line noise" was and looked like.

Then one could 'harvest' it and actually see the changes... or not. Same with the effect of power conditioners and such. Entirely too much arm waving and unsupported statements, and not enough effort put into what would be really simple tests. Alas, I am no longer in the job where I had access to such equipment :(

Well, no. Testing the line noise before and after will not tell you if the change, if there is one, is passed on to the output terminal of an amp, right? Or, if the amount of change is audible, right? That can only be tested by meters at the output terminals for a measured difference but still not if that is audible. That needs a DBT listening experiment. Darn that DBT. It pops into every such question in the end, doesn't it?

You should check out some amp DBT, or some other component DBT. If they cannot be differentiated, why would power cords, or line conditioners be a bigger deal???

While this is an indirect parallel, it is a good one:

Why is he able to sell so many books and been so successful in the past to swindle? Are those people not delusional? Or just gullible to the nth degree? I bet audio has a parallel side to this.
