I taped up the vents on my $100 Sony RX and hooked up 4 speakers in parallel to each channel and turned it up all the way.

It started smoking.

Is that normal?

Let's see...I'm no genius but based on your descriptive behavior, yes. You don't have any pets do you?

Please tell me you filmed that.:D Because if you didn't film doing something so silly then what was the point, personal satisfaction in seeing a Sony product literally go up in smoke?

Yes its normal for it to smoke if you tape up the vents.
pouring lighter fluid into the receiver will give you a better light show.

I'm wondering.... what would happen if you removed the coolant from your cars radiator???? Perhaps you'd get better milaege without having to carry the weight of the coolant around....

What you just witnessed was the magic smoke,if you try sticking a butter knife in the back of your tv set you'll see something wonderfull.

I think a better idea would be to remove the cover and touch the big cylindrical thingies that are otherwise known as capacitors. With your tounge.

I know how you can fix the Sony, put it in the microwave and set the timer for 2 minutes. Don't mind the sparking, this is normal.

Also, take apart a tube tv, if you have one, and disconnect the little rubber thinger on the tube, there should be a wire there, touch it, but be certain that you are grounded.

Another fun trick...

Remove the back of a big screen CRT based TV set and, for a truly mind-blowing experience, lick the picture tube.

(kids, don't try this at home. We're trained professionals.)

Oh yes...I almost forgot. When playing with electronics you must always ground yourself in ankle deep water.

I said something like that earlier, and that would be great. Kind of like the miraculous exploding computer on google videos.
