I would like to get some opinions on the def.tech. supercube II and the sunfire true jr.I have narrowed my choice between these 2 subs and cant get off the fence. My room is 22.5 x 19.5 x 8 ft ceiling.FWIW the def.tech would run me approx 200. less than the sunfire.would appreciate the help.thanks

Small subs

I am not familiar with the Def Tech, but many reviews of the Sunfire subs are not impressive. If size is an issue, check out the 10" subs from SVS, HSU, and Rocket (av123.com).
If you don't mind a larger enclosure, your room needs a good 12" sub to output LFE at decent levels. I think the 12" Axiom EP500 is in the price range of the models you mentioned.

You may want to think about two of those subs with a room that size.

Your room is pretty close to mine and I am using a PB-10. It won't kick you in the chest, but it definitely makes its presence known. It is not a physically small sub though. Is the problem aesthetic or limited space? If it's space, you might consider a SVS cylinder - lots of oomph without a lot of floor space.

For less money than the Sunfire, you can get a SVS PB-12 ISD that will fill you with joy.

The cube is bigger and weighs 78 lbs but there are good reasons to make it so. And it's not ugly at all:

I appreciate all the responses and i'm aware that the svs and hsu subs are great but unfortunatly due to their size they cant be considered.Thats why i've limited myself to either the def.tech. supercube or sunfire true jr which is where i need the help.If size was not an issue then by all means i would consider an svs or hsu especially for the price.

I have owned a Sunfire Jr. (a few years old now and not with "True" in the name I believe) and I am very pleased with it. I should note that I use it in my music only system. At the time, I had a moderate sized Klipsch subwoofer in another room as part of my HT setup and my wife made it clear that no such box would be allowed in our formal living room.

Numerous reviews I have read discuss it being finicky to set up and I concur. When I first got mine, I recall being less than blown away by it after first setting it up. With some tinkering, mostly with regards to exact location, it comes close to blowing me away, particularly as you truly do need to look carefully to find it. I believe though, that its strength is in tight, fast bass, dare I say "musical". While it puts out a significant quantity of bass, a bassophile would likely want two to get the kick in the stomach effect. Two would clearly do that, imho, but so would alot of different options available for the cost of 2.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I'll do what I can to answer them.

are you guys saying that the velo's or the onix would be better than the supercube? I mean this is making me very hard to make a decision.

i have the supercube reference, and have listened to the supercube II a fair ammount, i think that for the size it is a really good sub. i don't have experience with the rocket or the velo though

Have you every thought about Martin Logan products? Their subwoofers are fairly compact (sealed designs) and are highly praised. I haven't heard them personally, but a friend of mine who I trust says they're the best he's ever heard. Period.

I agree with the SPL series.

Great subs, very loud, and tight.

The Outlaw sub woofers are rated pretty darn good and reasonably priced. Not too big either. There is a review of them on this site.
