Small Cheap (<$100) Speakers for Kitchen

Hello,

I'd like to find some speakers for my kitchen. I need something small, less than 8 inch tall is a must. My budget is $100. There is no room for a subwoofer in the kitchen or DIY in my house. I realize I can't break the laws of physics, but I want to come close! Should I just get a boom-box?

Has anyone had experience with Dayton SAT-BK Satellite Speakers or Xbox Spherex Satellite Speakers from Parts Express?

Thanks!

Kitchen speakers.

I have these in-ceiling speakers my kitchen and a few other rooms and recommend them for background music. If you don't mind running some wiring through the attic, they will work great for $35/pair.

Here are some small bookshelf speakers that might work better depending on your wiring requirements. $59 each in black:

Thanks for the suggestions. So far, it lookslike the HTDs might be the best option.

Less than 8" tall is pretty darn small! Have you considered self-powered computer type or monitor speakers? Example: http://www.amazon.com/M-Audio-StudioPro-Desktop-Audio-Monitors/dp/B000BN7CRU
Yeah, the only convenient space for the speakers in the kitchen is pretty small. If I went larger then it would either interfere with cooking or be a more involved project.

I have vaguely considered self powered speakers. Since I already have a two zone receiver I thought I could get more bang for the buck with monitors.
