.....Nick....you're a strong advocate of correct damping on speakers along with Mtrycrafts....let me ask both of you this....was the element which was hurting your ears when you cranked your system, taken care of, by damping the speakers and losing that taxing brilliance on top of the highs?.....

.....The Duffinator, what we need to do, is chip in on making sure Brian gets to keep his D200 body....if he keeps his, I'll get a D200 also, and call on Mr. Plastic.....

.....(not much room left on mr. plastic, either).....

.....edit....Spiderman watch W/camera onboard due anytime....a nickel less than a $20 to my door....can I find a deal or what?.....

.....Gentlemen, if your significant other is taking care of the bills every month full-time, and you trust her with every nickel, your other is truly significant....years of shell-shock in my case....anyhow, since I'm reporting my system here until some pictures can mean something, let me comment on amps....they have a presence....different brands have different presenceseses....pre-amps have a presence, and there's where the most effect for "live presence", "can", lay for the total effort, in the pre-amp, probably 75%....that's what you've got to try to listen for when you compare two components....their presence....does it sound more live than the other one?....the term audiophile is misleading....people think one of them varmints has special hearing that other's don't....cannon fodder....the longer you've been in the hobby, actively involved, coming up with new equipment at least every now and then, the more you learn what to listen, "FOR"....and I think that's as far as gifted special hearing goes....

.....and I'll say this....to do all this hearing I'm talking about, your speakers hold the key, imo....speakers that are wonderfully descriptive and able to image 'till Tuesday sure make the hearing easier....I didn't really get serious with this stuff until I got that first pair of 52 pound bookshelves from Morro Bay Bob, so I've only been serious about three years.....but sure, I had receivers and seperates for 35 years before these three....I guess it's all cumulative....

Speakers hold the key....now were talking my language. I was messing around with my vintage ADS L810's over the long weekend and decided to throw them into my HT to see what they sounded like with a sub handling the lower frequencies. Holy moly was I enjoying music like never before with my system. Speakers do make a big difference and I can hear much more return on my audio dollar with speakers than I can with amp and sources.

.....yes, yes, The Duffinator....sorry I missed this one yesterday....I guess I was layin' around tryin' to recover from the gay threads.....

.....with my system, I'm in limbo until the Behringer dcx 2496's are in stock at outlets....all those years I was using the Mc pre and 2 Mc amps, I wondered if there was something else out there that could smash the Mc equipment flat....I'm beginning to see McIntosh is somewhat in a class by itself for the presence it presents....I had a friend named David come over the other night to help me lift some stuff and move some stuff out of the theater....I fired up my present four speaker system of 2 mains and 2 surrounds pushed by Mc, and chose Star Wars 1 for the listening and viewing....David listened for about 5 minutes and asked me to turn it down....he then said, "mule, you just don't realize how this sounds"...."you listen to it on a regular basis and are used to it"....I humbly nodded my head, while my shadow was doing cartwheels....Speaker Art speakers damped correctly with McIntosh pushing, what a combo......

Leave em hooked up when the CD arrives (Haven't mailed it yet, been busy  ).

BTW, only listen to it when your wife kids, and pets are not around.

.....got a pair of SpeakerArt custom 52 pound Super Clef bookshelves in yesterday from Morro Bay Bob that have MDT 33 tweeters going against the 8 inch 205R woofers....they'll be used as presence rears sitting sideways on top of my present SpeakerArt TL front mains which will be sitting on a bar in the rear of the room....they will be front-hinged to the rear TL's and tilted a little down toward the sweet spot of the chamber, pushed by a used McIntosh MC2105.....two Behringer DCX 2496's next to order....two more SpeakerArt TL's in cherry cabinets are soon to come I traded a new Placette pre-amp for that will be front mains....then will come two more SpeakerArt Super Clef's in cherry that will be high and low front centers in exchange for a virtually new Crown K2....slow and steady.....
