Slight distortion when using speakers -ie, crackling noise

While playing music and sound on my yamaha rx-v 2600 I notice sometimes with the sbs-01 and the wires attached that occassionaly I hear a crackling noise while playing high frequencies, its as if the stereo wire isn't connected properly however it is, I am using the sonicwave 3.5mm to rca connector to an input on the yamaha.

Its as if someone is shuffling papers.

Anyone can help, I don't want to break my speakers

It sounds distorted as if you are playing a vcr tape or dvd and it freezes for a few seconds occasiaonnly.

It doesn't sound like that all the time, but you can sense a rining sound sometimes. i shut it off for now.

Is this only at higher volumes? You could be overloading something. It may not be the speakers though. It may be that you're feeding too high a level into the preamp and overloading the front end.

What is the source and how is it hooked up to the receiver?

It is an audigy 2 zs notebook sound card connected to an impact acoustics 3.5mm adapter to the receiver. The signal to noise ratio is high, and turning down the volume, doesn't make the problem go away However- it sounds lower.

A good example- I am playing music- and sometimes with deep notes- I get a screeching noise- or shii shiii crackling noise (kinda like if you wiggle a connector while you are listetning to music).

I am not sure if it happens with the radio, but I am going to try a solution perhaps.

Could be electrical noise because the notebook is operating on a completely indepdendent source of power? I would try a ground loop isolator like this: http://www.audioallies.com/getitem.asp?Item=B-25N&Sys=FR but I'm no expert :)

Is it hooked up through the headphone port? Can you try an optical connection?

have you had this fixed yet? I currently have the same problem with my pioneer. I've taken it to an authorized service center and they couldn't find anything wrong. They even replaced the power amplifier and they say that everything is ok. I don't understand what it could be because its like that on all sources.
