Sister-in-law just bought Bose!!!

I originally found AH because I was a disenchanted Bose 3-2-1 owner. I came here looking for something better when I found the Bose to be quite lacking in the audio quality department. Unfortunately, it took me more than 30 days to awaken to that and I ended up missing my refund window and had to sell the Bose privately at a loss. The point being that I realized on my own that Bose sucks and I went looking for something better. Unless your family comes to this same conclusion on their own, there is little you can do to sway them.

Not everyone cares at all about audio quality. I offered to let my old room mate use my old 5.1 system for his place, all M&K speakers and a Denon 2805 reciever, and his answer was "no thanks, my tv's speakers sound fine for watching movies." That tv would be his 26" tubed crt that he's had for at least 10 years.

Exactly. I personally would never buy Bose and most of the regulars on the forum wouldn't either but it serves a purpose for a segment of the population and so be it.

Even if you do care about audio quality there are real life factors that serve to limit what you can do. It is not always possible to have the 'ideal' setup so we do the best we can. Now it doesn't take much to better than Bose but still we each have to pick a level that suits our needs whether they are constrained by dollars, room size/shape, aesthetic considerations, or whatever. In the end, the enjoyment of the music or movies is what matters and who cares if any one of us can easily hear a deficiency in some frequency range if the owner of the system is just pleased as punch with it?

The EMP speakers that Audioholics is selling at a great price may very well be a great deal but they are butt ugly and I wouldn't buy them for that reason alone...let's try to remember that there are myriad factors to consider when purchasing any equipment.

I wouldnt say anything. most people buy bose because everyone else does and they think it is the best thing since sliced bread. It is terrible when you buy something and are excited about it to only have someone tell you "that sucks". For average people bose suits their listening pleasure and they dont care about what else is out there. Why would they they think Bose is great. When people tell me they are looking into Bose I simply tell them to demo other systems that may give them more for their dollar.
I would let it go and enjoy your audiophile equip.
