Single Delay Setting & Rears at Different Distances

My surrounds need a 6ms delay for LR and 2ms delay for RR but the receiver has a single rear delay setting.

Do I split the difference to 4ms or set it to one or the other calculated delays?

Are you using an older ProLogic receiver that requires you to set the delay time instead of entering the distance to the speakers (and having the receiver calculate the necessary delay)?

It's not going to matter much anyway so splitting the difference and setting both to 4ms will probably work just fine.

MDS,

My receiver requires that I set the actual ms value for delay. It does not do any distance calcs.

AVRat,

I appreciate you replying with your opinion, but I don't consider it "the answer". I am looking for several opinions on the subject.

Also, I am new to these forums so I am not looking to break forum rules, but I didn't see anything in the FAQ about posting to multiple forums if the post applies to more than one forum. I am only trying to ensure that someone in this topic that might offer an opinion would see my post. If I am wrong I expect an Admin will let me know.

It is common practice regardless of what the FAQ says. If you have a question that is basically the same as before, stick with your original thread.

Is this a prologic receiver or no? If it is, the rear channels are essentially mono, so splitting the difference should be OK.

The Receiver is Dolby Digital and DTS capable. I guess it is just old enough to have missed the boat on discrete delays and distance settings.

Thanks for the replies.

Didn’t mean to sound harsh and condescending, that’s not my way. Didn’t know if perhaps you may have forgotten where you posted the question. BTW, good to see another Coloradan here.

AVRat,

Everything is good, and thanks for the Colorado love. You can appreciate how our weather this winter has had me spending more and more time inside with the HT!
