simple AC-3 Amp recommendation?

I'm looking for a very simple amplifier that will decode AC-3 (5.1) and amplify (say to around 55W/channel) -- that's all, nothing more. An RS232 port for control would be a big bonus.

The application is to connect to a PC (running MCE2005) for a small bedroom home theater. The amp will be stuffed in a closet. All it needs to do is turn on and off, decode AC3, and amplify. I'd like to control through an RS232, or an IR blaster as last resort.

Creative + M-Audio solution

A solution for a decent quality PC sound system looks to be the M-Audio product: StudioPhile LX4 2.1 System (expanable to 5.1). Use this with a PC sound card (e.g a Creative) and on paper it looks pretty good.

Any one familiar with the LX4, comments would be nice.

Not a whole lot of processor/amps out there.

Your most cost effective solution would probably be a receiver. There are a ton of these and the only difference between what you want and these is that they include a tuner and you don't HAVE to use the tuner part should you elect.

You might have to shop around for the RS232 port since these still aren't a standard feature. I'm pretty sure this will bump up your price somewhat.
