????Silent Hill: 5.1 DTS version????

This is really bizarre. I have the movie Silent Hill with DTS. The DTS track is 5.1 (not ES matrix or discrete) and has a constant bitrate of 755kbps. The DVD's default is 5.1 Dolby Digital (which was sad in comparison to the DTS track). I've watched the movie before on a regular DVD. Keeping in mind that I had a different speaker array at that time it would obviously sound much different. However, I don't believe I've ever heard a more dynamic sound track on a DVD.

A couple other oddities about this DVD in particular is that it has a regular DVD case, the most common clam shell ones that pretty much every movie comes in. However the paper cover art behind the protective plastic has holographic snowflakes on the entire surface. There is also a blue seal (it's part of the original print for the cover art paper) on the front that says Collector's Series and below that there is a large yellow 9 and at the foot of the 9 there is a red DTS logo and finally below that it says Region Quality.

The region code for the DVD is stated as 1 on the back and the rating is PG. If you look up your country rating systems you will see that only the MPAA (only in the US) uses PG as a rating for anything. This is particularly puzzling because I know that this movie's MPAA rating is R.

One other note, the PQ did seem to fall a little short. Perhaps it was because much room was made for DTS. I can also verify that this is a dual layer DVD with the encryption bar codes.

I am merely curious of the origin of this DVD. I've tried inputting the UPC and countless other google searches using different keyword configurations.

The only time I have seen similar oddities was with a copy of the movie The Village that my sister got; it had a DTS track (which it shouldn't have), the UPC said 'The Recruit', some of the extras that should have been present were missing, and there was blue seal that says "quality region. dual layer" around its border with a nine in the middle of the seal. And the subtitle options were English, Chinese, Malay and Thai.

It almost sounds like a bootleg as I know that was rated "R".....very strange Seth...

It's exactly like that. No FBI warnings either. Also same subtitles.

Bluesmoke, it's a DVD.

I don't believe a bootleg would have such a dynamic soundtrack. As stated before it's the most dynamic I've ever heard on a DVD.

I wouldn't ether, but everything else about it seems to say Hollywood didn't authorize its existence.
