Hello
I have Yamaha's HTR-5990. So far so good. I'm wondering if there's a killer receiver out there. There's so many. It's too confusing. My set up is a sony bravia 52 in flat screen with 1080p. The yamaha coupled with an Emotiva LPA-1 amp, a Sony PS3. Speakers are AV123 stratas, ref1 center, and in ceiling surrounds.
Just curious. Oh and I don't want to put the house up to pay for it either. Best bang for the buck is my motto . Thanks Chris.

What do you think is lacking in the sound?

I did not notice a subwoofer in your post. Do you have one? Even though the Strata's are full range speakers, for movies and games a sub is definitely required. SVS, HSU, eD, etc. are internet direct brands that make exceptional subs.

If you already have a sub, upgrading electronics will only provide marginal gains, if any. Look into room treatments for substancial bang for buck improvements in sound.

Or is it the video side you are not happy with? Maybe, time to get front projection? Nothing wow's folks like a 120" screen :D.

Well, after living with the Denon 3808 for about a year im convinced i will never get a stand alone processor, unless I win the lottery. I use the Denon as a proccessor and it sounds fantastic. If i was to look for another receiver it would have Audyssey processing in it like the Denon. I paid about 1,100.00 for the Denon, and now the Audyssey processing comes in recevers costing less !

Audessy and YPAO aren't all that much different in that price class of receivers. I don't think the OP will get a dramatic improvement over sound quality in switching to a Denon from his HTR5990.

Oh I bet! Yes I forgot to mention my infinity 8" powered sub, I just wanted to check if there was anything substantial out there. Thank you for your thoughts.

Your next 2 upgrades should be

1. Getting or building a major subwoofer.

Changing your display from LCD to Plasma, RPTV or FP.

At this point I think the next step you take will be a product of your own desires.

For a Projector setup I'd suggest the Optoma HD80 and a Carada Brilliant White screen. If your doing a shelf mount then look at an Epson 6500. However if a PJ isn't your thing then go Plasma.

Don't upgrade your receiver it'd be a waste of $$$ at this time.
