I have a 2 yr old Sony 4k smart hdtv and use antenna for over the air broadcasts and free tv apps via wifi, plus a non-4k bluray player. I wonder how much 4k programming I'm getting, if any. I know the tv upsccales to 4k. Do you think I really need a 4k avr?

Quick random note: for better acoustics, pull your center out so that its Baffle is a little in front of the edge of your shelves, say at least by 3/4 inch. ;)

That's really up to you. Like I said before, if you're happy now changing up receivers is pretty much a lateral move aside from getting an update, which no, is not necessary if everything you have works and is happy.

Thanks you. I do understand the concept of having the leading edge of speaker baffle beyond any obstructions, but esthetics is as much a factor to having a nice peaceful home. The difference is barely noticeable, and likewise the LR speakers are a bit too far back too. Lively room acoustics is more of an issue here as the room extends further back into dining area. This is not dedicated HT room or man cave so it will stay w/o rear speakers and subwoofer as well.

If you do get a 4K UHD blu-ray player check out Sony’s UBP-X700 it’s a good unit rated good also I have it, ADTG just picked one up also. Wal-Mart and Amazon has it going for 149.00. It has Dolby Vision also. Would be a nice addition to your set up you have. Oh if you do make sure your 4K tv is set to Full UHD on my 4K that has to be turn on in the input settings yours maybe a different in your settings. Here’s a pic of the box it came so you can see all it has.

Thanks for all the feedback. After considering everything and assembling all my thoughts this is my conclusion I've come to. Being that I'm not ready to upgrade all my sources to 4k and that over-the-air tv is not 4k it makes little sense to upgrade my avr to a 4k version. My current avr has a superb amp section. If I come across a bit new avr w/ a high powered amp section at a good price, I may make an upgrade to a few years newer model though. Thanks all.
