It appears that the 5990 has some really great deals, it's going for $550 about on onecall. I would really like an opinion on this. I could probably sell the 5890 for around $450 to put toward the 5990.

It looks like the only gains are HDMI and XM. (right?)
For me anyway, neither of those are worth an extra $100.
Just my opinion.:)

Not married, so not an issue now.:D There is a good reason I ask questions, because I am not sure of the answer. It seems the general concensus is keep the 5890.:)

Some friendly advice, Seth.

Be careful with this hobby. Learn to separate real, needed, performance impovements from cutsey little features that offer marginal (at best) changes/improvements in sound or convenience.

I can't see trading in (note I don't say "upgrading") simply for weome featureasthat don't really make an audiable difference.

Now, if there's a quantem prefoermance upgrade that's another story but, aside form DD, DTS and perhaps DPLII, there's not really been a heckuva significant change in the market.

As long as you have adequate power and your I/O is in order, what else really matters?

but, hey. it's your money. IMNSHO, I'd put any excess money in a money market for when you get old. Gotta love that compound interest.

Take markw's input to heart:D No need to obsess over this. Upgrade when you really need to, like when you upgrade to HD DVDs and need to reproduce their HD audio soundtracks. I may need to sell my boomboxes as well soon:D

I have been meaning to ask, how are those wonderful boomboxes performing anyway?:D

I guess it is settled, I will wait.:)

you can find it from authorized online dealers for the same price. Is onecall an authorized dealer?
